Natural & Cultured Stone Sealing & Cleaning
Stone masonry is used in many outdoor hardscapes including stone patios, sidewalks, walls, pool decks and more. There are two main types of stone that need sealing and waterproofing. Both are very venerable to stains, spills and the damaging effects of water and ice. Sealing and waterproofing your stone or flagstone can enhance the color of your stone, and also reduce moss, mold and mildew growth.
Natural Stone: Natural stone consists of many different types of rock or stone including, limestone, flagstone, sandstone, bluestone and many more. Natural stone masonry is often used for stone sidewalks, patios and pool decks. It is usually held together by very porous mortar. This mortar will readily soak up water, which can freeze and cause the entire structure to crack and break apart. A sealer or water-repellent will stop this moisture from penetrating.
Cultured, Manufactured or Faux Stone: Manufactured Stone is simply colored concrete that has been molded into the shape of a stone. This type of stone is most often used to clad the exterior walls of homes or businesses. Faux stone is usually very thin, porous and easily damaged. This type of stone is actually so porous that many times water will go completely through the stone and into the wall behind it. This can cause rot, decay and create a dangerous mold growth condition within the walls of your home. Sealing cultured, manufactured or faux stone will stop water from penetrating and protect the thin layer of color on the surface.

Most sealers on the market are not designed to be used on stone.
Driveway sealers and most acrylics are not breathable, and will often flake, peel, bubble or turn white if applied to stone or rock.
